So many of us live in the Bay Area and never have the chance to get out on the water. What a shame. Sharer Patrick H. used to be one of us, but then he went and bought himself a sailboat. A 27′ Catalina to be exact. And lucky for us all, he’s sharing it.
How long have you been sailing?
Well…a few months! I’ve been wanting to learn for a long time and when a friend was selling this boat, I figured it was my chance. I was sort of worried that it would be boring because growing up my dad had motorboats and they got a little boring for me. But sailing keeps you busy – it’s technical, active and hands-on. I love it.
What’s the quirkiest thing about your boat?
Probably the net around it. At first, I thought it was lame but now I like it because it keeps my crab pots from falling overboard.
Where’s your favorite place to sail in the bay?
Everywhere! It’s one giant playground. Going to Angel Island on your own watch is also a bonus.
Where do you want to sail next?
The Delta or up to Napa. Wine country on a boat? Yes, please.
Where do you want to sail outside of the bay?
Going outside the gate [Golden Gate Bridge] is pretty intense. I’ve done it to go crabbing but I wouldn’t plan any big voyages just yet. I’m thinking of chartering a boat in the Caribbean – maybe Jamaica.
What are you looking for in a JustShareIt renter?
Before anyone takes my special lady out, I want to go on the water with them and make sure they know what they’re doing. Once I’m satisfied that she’s in good hands, it would be nice to rent her to repeat, trusted renters.
If you could pull yourself away from your boat, what would you rent from other Sharers?
I used to own a motorcycle so I’m excited to rent one and take it on Skyline towards Pacifica. An RV would be pretty sweet, too. Actually, I would even rent a sailboat. It’s a great way to “test drive” another boat if I ever consider buying a different one and it would also just be fun to experience another vessel.
